Fun Stuff

Trivia:
Images from King Kong (1933), The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), and Them! (1954) are hidden within the film. Each image is seen extremely briefly, for only a single frame, during a camera edit. The "Them!" picture is shown at 00.24.06, the "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" picture is shown at 00.45.27, and the "King Kong" picture is shown at 1.06.55. A brief clip of Rob and Beth at a train station is seen with the "King Kong" image at 1.06.51. more
Goofs:
Factual errors: A typical hand-held camcorder records at 30 fps (frames per second), yet practically the whole movie was shot at 24 fps, the usual frame rate used in feature-length movies. A few shots, however, are set at 30 fps, such as when Jason and Lily are dancing with each other. more
Quotes:

Rob Hawkins: It's 6:42 AM. Beth's dad's place. He's out of town. And it's already a good day.

A masterful piece of work, 23 January 2008
9/10

It's not surprising that the below average viewers can't grasp the subtleties and professional finesse of "Cloverfield". The movie recourses deliberately to a tacky cliché (the invincible crocosaurus attacking Manhattan) and, by combining it with the minimalistic view pushed to the extreme (the 100% adoption of an amateur video-cam perspective, "Blair Witch Project"-like), creates a very interesting, dramatic and significant aesthetic formula. The deconstructivist recipe works artfully and skillfully in this case. The suspense is extremely well built up, the thrills abound, and let me tell you: no matter I'm a 48 years old movie professional who watched and coldly analyzed most of the best thrillers, SF, horror and action movies of all times, "Cloverfield" REALLY gave me the creeps! One final piece of advice: Are you ready or a breath-taking experiment? Go see "Cloverfield". Are you the sub-mediocre viewer, looking for cheap thrills? "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" will bring you the much desired visual orgasm.
