So our good pal Peter Hall was traveling overseas, and this is how you know that "Horror Geeks" is a really awesome fraternity: He bought me a copy of the E4 horror mini-series Dead Set! Created by the insanely clever Charlie Brooker, Dead Set is about the zombie apocalypse as seen through the cameras of a Big Brother broadcast. It's a five-part mini-series that runs about 140 minutes in total -- and man, it's really something special. Knowing a bit about Brooker's snarky ways, I was half-expecting this to be a jokey sort of zombie affair, but no way man: This is full bore horror, and it's one of the best serious zombie movies of the last twenty years. As far as I know, Dead Set is not currently available through a R1 distributor, but if any horror movie is worth the few extra bucks, it's this one. Damn good stuff,

Lionsgate have just released deets on their upcoming Midnight Meat Train release and since we're down with all things Barker and I liked the film so much at the Eiff this year I thought I'd fill you guys in on what you can expect from the "Director's Cut" DVD and when you can pick it up.
The DVD is being released on February 17, 2009 and will include three featurettes; "Anatomy of a Murder - the Making of The Midnight Meat Train featurette,"World of Clive Barker featurette," and something called "Mahogany's Bag." No audio commentaries are being reported as yet which is a shame as it would have been cool to hang with Vinnie Jones for a couple hours while he explained what it was like cutting brown boils off his chest (guess you had to see it).

Ryuhei Kitamura's debut American horror film Midnight Meat Train gave rise to some friction between horror fans and Lionsgate earlier this year when the latter dumped the film into a limited amount of theaters. This adaptation of the Clive Barker story has since had a healthy run on VOD and FearNet, but if you haven't seen it there then February 17th is the day for you. That's when Lionsgate Home Entertainment releases the film on DVD and Blu-Ray. Special features include: . Anatomy of a Murder: the Making of The Midnight Meat Train featurette . **Please Note: This will be at the top for a while; be sure to scroll down for updated news stories!** Horror may currently be in a slump, but the 2008 American Film Market has shown a huge light at the end of the tunnel. This year showcased a record number of horror titles and Dread Central was on hand to catch a great deal of them. Some were good, some were bad but all showed that this genre still has plenty of lifeblood left. Many exhibitors were also kind enough to show us movie promos, while others coldly showed us the door (Lesbian Vampire Killers, I’m looking at you). The most promising show previews were easily Night of the Demons and Clive Barker’s Dread, with plenty of new projects being announced. Check out our full Afm '08 coverage here.
So without further ado, we present you with our yearly

The first stills we brought you for Clive Barker's upcoming Book of Blood adaptation pretty much screamed "for true horror fans only," if the title didn't already. Now we have the first trailer for the movie (thanks to Dread Central), and let me just say clearly now, this is really only for bloody-thirsty aficionados. I say that not just because the film borders on nightmare-inducing - you're pretty much guaranteed that anytime you have a crucifixion scene - but also because only a small audience will probably really enjoy it. I just hope this doesn't go the way of Barker's last effort, The Midnight Meat Train. I'm still trying to catch a screening of that since the release was so restricted. Check out the trailer if you dare! Watch the trailer for Clive Barker's Book of Blood: Book of Blood is directed and co-written by John Harrison, of

Last year I spent a few weeks in London (Croydon, actually) at the home of a hardcore horror freak named Paul McEvoy. And since Paul is a co-founder and programmer for UK FrightFest, well, let's just say I had a whole bunch of horror flick festival screeners to pick through. It was awesome. One of those discs had the words Fritt Vilt scrawled across it, and I didn't even know what language that was. Turns out it was Norwegian and the flick's English title is Cold Prey. Despite the fact that, plot-wise, it's a pretty conventional slasher flick, I quite liked Fritt Vilt, and I was pleased to learn that the sequel is on the way. Anchor Bay will be releasing the original, and you can check out the trailer and website right here.
Looks like After Dark Horrorfest decided to share their newest posters with a few different horror sites.

The wait is over as he’s back! Yes, today marks the return of James Bond to UK cinema screens as the super-spy tools up for his 22nd outing in Quantum of Solace. To say we’re excited here at Boxwish HQ is a serious understatement and to prove it (in case you wanted proof) we kicked off our “007 days of Bond” special features yesterday with our guide to getting the look of the lady-killing secret agent. But however much we’re psyched about Bond, we understand that he isn’t for everyone and as such bring you news about other new releases hitting your local cinema this weekend, including a horror just in time for Halloween and a gritty real-life drama. Enjoy!
If you see… James Bond (Daniel Craig) pick up where he left off in Casino Royale by seeking revenge for his lover’s death in the action-packed thrill-ride,

It's Halloween, of course, and in the spirit of...well, spirits, I guess, FEARnet is giving horror movie fans a very special treat today (no pun intended).
All day long, you can watch Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train for free at FEARnet. Yep, completely and totally free. No sign-ups, no nothing. Just be over 18 and you can watch the Train as many times as you like. The best part about this is that you can't see this movie anywhere else right now. It's not on Video on Demand yet nor is it out on DVD.
The movie is based on a Clive Barker short story about a photographer who sees too much on assignment. Yep, he catches a serial killer in the act on the subway. Bradley Cooper's your hero, Vinnie Jones is your villain, and Brooke Shields and Leslie Bibb co-star.
This is a fantastic promotion for horror fans,

You may not have heard much about the film The Midnight Meat Train. It was based on a story by Clive Barker and was supposed to be released by Lionsgate. A while back there was a lot of buzz around this film due to the fact that Lionsgate basically “buried” the movie, releasing it on only about 100 screens throughout the entire U.S.
Well FEARnet has a special holiday treat for horror movie fans…
Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train (featuring a cast led by Brooke Shields, Vinnie Jones, Bradley Cooper and Roger Bart) is now available for free online at the FEARnet website.
The film received a very limited run in theaters and has yet to be released on DVD, so in the spirit of Halloween, FEARnet (online and VOD) is making the film available to you. It’s the only place you can see the film right now.

The week of October 18-24, 2008, was all about trailers, trailers, and more trailers -- for some highly anticipated and much discussed re-imaginings of classic genre films along with quite a few promising indies. And we got posters. Lots of new posters were revealed over the past seven days as well.
But first up is info on a pair of horror/sci-fi hybrids. Bill Malone describes his upcoming Phoenix Dust as a "sweeping sci-fi with kickass babes and gang-banger robots" while the somewhat Cube-sounding Pandorum stars Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster as crew members who awaken on a spaceship with no knowledge of who they are or why they’re there.
Two of this Woman's favorite things are award shows and film festivals, and both are covered in this week's Wrap-Up. The 2008 Scream Awards went down on October 18th, and the list of winners can be found right here. People have

While Lionsgate's Saw V is set to hit theaters October 24th, the studio has been under scrutiny after dumping Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train in discount theaters this summer, and planning a limited release for the musical-horror film Repo! The Genetic Opera on November 7. In addition, J.T. Petty's The Burrowers is going stright-to-disc in April. Various reasons have been cited, none have been confirmed, but there are more Lionsgate horror films that are having trouble hitting theaters - one such is the Spierig brothers' vampire pic Daybreakers. While we've heard Lionsgate is very happy with the pic (and had originally planned a trilogy for the franchise), the studio has yet to confirm that the film will hit theaters. While we wait for something official, you can read some fresh news from one of the stars of the film inside.

Just about a year ago, Comcast's FEARnet video-on-demand service dug into the Lionsgate vault and pulled out Catacombs, which they offered at no charge on their VOD network. Turns out the flick wasn't all that hot, but hey, horror fans love to see stuff for free ... especially if it hasn't been released on video just yet.
So this year FEARnet is doing it again -- only this time it's a movie that did have a (rather insultingly) limited theatrical release. Like, Very limited. Yes, gore-fans, Ryuhei Kitamura's adaptation of Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train may very well be viewable in your own living room -- at this very moment! (If you get FEARnet on your cable box, that is...) Last year Catacombs was also made available on the Fn website prior to its DVD release, but we don't know if that will be the case on Meat Train.

While he’s only directed a handful of movies, many of Clive Barker's frightful stories have made it to the big screen, like Candyman and The Midnight Meat Train (2008), and he's produced movies like Gods and Monsters (1998). With Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae, his first directing gig in 14 years, and a remake of Hellraiser on the way, now is a good time to catch up with the moviemaking triple-threat.

Good news, everyone! Ryuhei Kitamura's adaptation of Clive Barker's unfortunately titled The Midnight Meat Train might have been Fd in the A by Lions Gate during its initial theatrical release (read all about it here (movies/movie-news/3788-is-lionsgate-disowning-qmidnight-meat-trainq.html)), but horror fans are lucky to have FEARnet coming to the rescue. Exactly two months after its release, it is now available on the cable on demand service. Starting today up until December, The Midnight Meat Train will be available for free viewing at any time if your cable service carries FEARnet in its line-up. In High Definition, no less, and it as a "special presentation," attached to the movie is a short introduction video by Clive Barker. So watch it. I suggest doing so immediately, given that this is the first good movie based on a Clive Barker story in, what, 20 years?

Remember when Lionsgate treated us horror fans like gold? One of the men behind the love was Producer Peter Block, who you can thank for the Saw franchise, The Devil's Rejects, Findo and a trio of upcoming horror films, The Midnight Meat Train, Repo! The Genetic Opera and The Burrowers. Now off on his own ventures, it was announced today that Block has launched A Bigger Boat, a film company that will produce the genre fare he oversaw as longtime prexy of acquisitions and co-productions at Lionsgate. You can read the details inside, along with a tease of his first two projects (*cough* John Carpenter).
