I have to shake my head when I read the comments of people that don't
care for this show. It's obviously not about the nuts-and-bolts
building of a house, and as far as Ty "never picking up a hammer" - for
God's sake, they can't show the entire seven days of building the
house, and if they did, who'd want to watch it?! Reality shows, by
their nature, are cruel freak shows, highlighting the worst of human
behavior, like disloyalty and back-stabbing motivated by greed
(SURVIVOR comes to mind), gross-out stunts (FEAR FACTOR, anyone?),
extolling the idea that physical beauty is the answer to all your
problems (THE SWAN), or exploiting a near-psychotic desire to appear on
TV no matter what the cost to yourself or your family (Jerry Springer
and his ilk). Extreme Makeover Home Edition instead highlights the best
in human behavior - compassion, a sincere desire to help someone in
need, and the "pay it forward" idea that helping another human being
will lead to that person helping another, and on and on. I don't enjoy
being shown that people can be selfish, hateful morons that will eat a
pig rectum or back-stab a friend for money or exposure, but I DO enjoy
being reminded that there are people in the world willing to help
others down their luck and do it in ways that change the recipient's
lives.
Extreme Makeover Home Edition is a wonderful, entertaining, inspiring
show, cast to perfection with funny, entertaining people who do their
jobs with exquisite taste and imagination. May it run forever!

What a fantastic show! It makes you laugh, makes you cry, and gives you
hope that there are still people out there who are willing to work
their socks off to give to other people. It makes one believe that
perhaps the world isn't so full of cold, selfish people out to please
themselves. It really makes me feel good inside to see how happy the
people on the receiving end are, and it's also wonderful to see that
the men don't feel they have to be "manly" or "butch", and have no
qualms about crying on camera, to be seen by heaven knows how many
people.
The fact the team go to such lengths to make the house the best it
possibly could be, tailored to the family, is amazing. Imagine if you
were on the receiving end, how ecstatic would you feel? Imagine your
joy, and then you may be able to imagine just how the families helped
by ABC and the EM:HE team feel. Their lives have been turned around,
picked up, and there are much fewer things for them to worry about.
I know a lot of people have issues with this show, that they feel it is
base and demeaning, and the people on it are undeserving. The people
they feature are needy in different ways, and just because they aren't
destitute and living on the street doesn't make them any less
deserving. The fact the team have worked to make houses safer for
residents to live in (such as the girl allergic to sunlight) proves in
my mind that this is much more than just a reality TV programme. This
is life-changing, and absolutely stunning.
In my opinion, this show is one of the most heart-warming reality TV
shows I've come across, and I think there should be more! Helping
people who need it, changing their lives in ways they never could have
done themselves, I think that's an amazing thing. Kudos to ABC, and to
the design team and the contractors who work through the night to get
the house done. It's fantastic!

Wow! What an amazing show. I never knew a show where everyone had such
great hearts! This show not only has amazing families every week but
the design team and crew just keep on working no matter what conditions
there under. I also must admit that I really like their spin off series
as well to give viewers a behind the scenes look at what they didn't
see the night before it's on this show where you can also see the
kindness of everyone on it. Way to go ABC you've really hit a Home Run
with this show keep it up you're doing a great job so far! I hope that
you guys keep it around for a while and I'm sure that in the future
they'll still be watching this Wonderful show!

I can't believe those few people who don't like this show. Maybe I'm
going a little off kilter here, but do you not have a heart? This show
is filled with so much emotion and love, it's amazing. It's a breath of
fresh air to watch such a show. Every carpenter (INCLUDING Ty
Pennington) works their butts off, and they only do it for one purpose:
to make a family a family again. If you don't like this show, I'd
really reconsider watching it again, and even tuning in to this show on
Monday nights to see how they did everything. And if you've never seen
this show, then you don't know what you're missing! I love to see the
family's reactions when they first see their house, and I love seeing
them walk into their new house. I don't think there's an episode that
I've watched yet that doesn't make me cry. I love this show.

I've been addicted to Extreme Makeover since it first aired here in the
UK on one of our satellite channels. I confess to having shed a few
tears on more than one occasion, the most recent episode being where a
son had managed to trace his father who was living rough and bring him
home. There wasn't a dry eye in the house that night. Its truly
heartwarming stuff in a world where we increasingly don't really care
about people who may be less fortunate than ourselves. I suppose thats
the not very "secret" secret about this show, it does something
positive to help people who are at their lowest ebb. The team of
builders, designers etc really seem to care about what they do and of
course when they get overly emotional when the job is finished that
sets me off too! Its great entertainment whilst doing something
extraordinarily worthwhile. I have to say you guys in the US really
know how to build houses.

I absolutely love this show, and have since it first aired. It's a show
I can watch with my friends and family, and we all love it, not for the
technical aspects of what is being done, but for the heart of the show,
and the amazing gifts that are given to these people who deserve a
little help and hope.
I sit here, and can list off the episodes that touched me, but we'd be
here all night. Suffice it to say, these people come to burnt down
homes, and rebuild. They come to homes where a children with cancer and
diseases can't survive and make them livable. They've been to a home
where a man tragically lost his sight in a pointless shooting, and gave
him some independence. They did the same for a man who was partially
paralyzed after a gang incident in his neighborhood when he got caught
in the crossfire.
This is a show about hope and heart and love. The designers have such
amazing hearts, and give these families homes that are functional and
safe, and beautiful. It's not just about building a pretty house and
putting up nails on the wall. It's a show about reaching out, about
touching and changing lives.
Through their work, they give the gift of independence, they allow
families to stay closer together, they give hope to the ill, the hurt,
the disabled. I tune in every week because it humbles me to see what
these people go through, and I remember how wonderfully I have it.
Seeing this show is a reminder that yes, terrible things happen to
wonderful people, but sometimes, some good can come out of it. Someone
else can come in, and bring some love, and some hope. Sure, it's in the
form of a house, but it represents more than that for the family that
lives inside it.
I love this show. I love the moments when the crew stops and Ty reminds
them why they are there. I love when Preston and Paul research whatever
room they are designing. I love when Connie and Paige get so wrapped up
and knee-deep in what they are doing. And all the other designers bring
such a life and a hope to this show.
If you have never seen it, it is worth seeing. No, it is not a "how to"
show about building and designing and carpentry. It's a "how to" show
about sacrifice, and selflessness, and demonstrating love towards
perfect strangers. That's the heart of this show.

I watch this show for three reasons.
1) All the crew loves the families and really want to help them. Which
is totally cool, because I believe all the families deserve it.
2) I love watching the house transform and I love seeing the families
faces when they come home to a brand new house.
3) Ty takes off his shirt in a lot of episodes. How could you not want
to see Ty without a shirt on? (unless your a guy of course) Also, if
you like this show you should watch the new one called "Extreme
Makeover Home Edition: How'd They Do That?" they show a lot of stuff
that the original one didn't. It's really cool!

Whenever you watch this show, you have to have a box of tissues next to
you. Deserving families who are going through hard times and live in a
house that is not up to standards are given a second chance by Ty
Pennington and his crew who come to the house, send the family on
vacation, and within a week build a completely brand new house, The
families who are portrayed on the show have touching and heartfelt
stories that will tear at your heart. It's refreshing to see a reality
show that actually does help people instead of trying to get ratings by
being somewhat trashy. They also show how they build the house, what
goes into it and how they are able to do this in a week! Extreme
Makeover is a wonderful show and I highly recommend it.

There are two things i love about this show.
Number one, everybody is there for one purpose, and that's the family.
Ty Pennington to just about everyone, wants the best for the family
that they are doing.
Number two, the Sears commercial they do that says, "Welcome Home".
What a wonderful 30 seconds or so.
Nice going ABC and Sears. Watch it, your gonna get hooked.

I had a friend that told me I had to sit down and watch the show and so
I did and now I can't get enough of the show. Ty and his team do a
awesome job at this. I wish I could be as talent as they are. Ty really
keeps this show alive. He does a awesome job at being the team leader
and doing his secret room. I always wonder how he does that and make
sure everything else gets done. I think the sad part about the show is
watching the families come home to a nice house. You can't help, but
put a little tear in there for the families. Its so awarding to know
that what they worked on paid off. Job well done team. Keep up the good
work.
