Joaquin Phoenix Retiring from Acting Completely?!

29 October 2008 9:56 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

At a benefit for Paul Newman this past Monday, 34-year-old actor Joaquin Phoenix told the show "Extra" that he's retiring from acting to focus on music. I don't know about you, but this is a real bummer in my mind. From To Die For to Buffalo Soldiers to Walk the Line to Reservation Road (even 8Mm), I've always enjoyed the guy and thought he was pretty damn talented. He also seems to have a knack for music, however, too. His work on the soundtrack to Walk the Line won him a Grammy. And presently, he's recording an album with Tim Burgess, lead singer of The Charlatans. If time proves this to be true - but you probably shouldn't question him on the veracity of his statement - let's hope he sticks around in the public eye, and doesn't pursue music like other actor-turned-musician hacks. I won't name names. Phoenix told

Movie Drinking Games: Miracle at St. Anna [Drinking Games]

26 September 2008 11:57 AM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

Not too long ago, Spike Lee gave Clint Eastwood a tongue lashing about the lack of attention the African American soldier got in recent WWII films. So, Spike decided to make his own movie about the Buffalo Soldiers. Unfortunately, the 166-minute running time of Miracle at St. Anna might make ...

Carrie-Anne Moss boards ‘Unthinkable’

22 September 2008 9:59 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Carrie-Anne Moss will be joining Samuel L. Jackson in Gregor Jordan’s upcoming action thriller “Unthinkable,” according to MTV Movies.

Although Moss’ camp has not really confirmed anything yet at this stage, it was Jackson who spilled details about her involvement with the project.

Directed by Gregor Jordan, helmer of “Buffalo Soldiers,” the film centers on a black-ops interrogator (Jackson) who teams up with an FBI agent to press a suspect into revealing the locations of three nuclear weapons.

“Since there are so many rules about how you can and can’t interrogate people, they bring my character in,” Jackson told MTV.

Well, it sure seems like a cool project at this stage. Moss recently starred in “Disturbia” and “Fido.” She is currently filming “Hanging Out Hooking Up Falling in Love.”

As for Jackson, he’s currently trying to get his new neighbors to move out in Neil LaBute’s “Lakeview Terrace.

The Not-So-Uplifting Trailer for Bret Easton Ellis' 'The Informers'

6 August 2008 3:00 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Well this one looks fun. Of course, it is a Bret Easton Ellis adaptation, and nobody can put a smile on your face like that guy.

Actually, this trailer makes the world of The Informers look really screwed up, not that that's always a bad thing as a moviegoer. The tagline pretty much says it all: Greed is good. Sex is easy. Youth is forever. The movie explores the downside to the go-go 1980s, tackling infidelity, addiction, and other lighthearted subjects with a great cast that includes Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, new It-Girl Amber Heard, and Mickey Rourke, and it also marks the final performance of Brad Renfro, which makes the whole dark affair a little more bleak.

Still, this could be incredible if Australian director Gregor Jordan handles the storylines carefully. His career is spotty, however. I liked Buffalo Soldiers but didn't care for his Ned Kelly remake.
