Jackman Named 'Sexiest Man Alive'

19 November 2008 9:23 AM, PST | From x17online.com | See recent x17online news

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Australian actor Hugh Jackman has been named People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" for 2008. Jackman, 40, has been married for twelve years to Deborra-Lee Furness. When told of the award Furness joked, "Obviously, Brad wasn't available this year." Meantime, GQ is naming it's annual Men of the Year. Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, the magazine calls him 'Golden Boy of the Year,' is featured on the cover. The magazine also honors, Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio and "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm. Entertainment Weekly magazine is honoring what they call the "Breakout Stars of 2008." Topping that list is the star of the "Twilight" phenomenon, Robert Pattinson.

A bit more 'Lost' news found

19 November 2008 8:53 AM, PST | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

I posted an item yesterday about Patrick Fischler's upcoming guest role in Season 5 of "Lost." Here's some excellent news -- he won't just be in one Season 5 episode of the ABC drama, as a recent IGN.com story about the show indicated. He'll be in at least two episodes and possibly more, according to a "Lost" source. Fischler's character is named Phil. Fischler, who had a memorable guest turn as comic Jimmy Barrett on "Mad Men," is one of TV's hardest working character actors; he's been on everything from "Burn Notice" to "The Middleman" this year, in addition to...

Jimmy Kimmel & Sarah Silverman: Reunited?

19 November 2008 8:20 AM, PST | From E! Online | See recent E! Online news

Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel like to keep us guessing. The former couple, who announced in July that they were calling it quits after five years together, showed up arm-in-arm to last night's GQ Men of the Year party at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont hotel. They smiled and posed together for photographers on the red carpet but declined joint interviews. Once inside the star-studded bash, they held hands while talking to GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson. Later on, Silverman was spied planting a sweet peck on Kimmel's lips. They also chatted with Mad Men star Jon Hamm, who is one of the magazine's four cover stars (the other three are Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Phelps and...

Men of The Year Party With the Women Who Are Obsessions

19 November 2008 6:00 AM, PST | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

Two out of GQ's four cover boy Men of the Year came out to celebrate at the Chateau Marmont in La last night. Jon Hamm and Leonardo DiCaprio both lived up to their steamy covers while Michael Phelps and Barack Obama (surprise) couldn't make it to the red carpet. Obsession of the year Megan Fox looked hot in pink and kept her boyfriend Brian Austin Green close for photos. Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel still don't want to define their relationship, but things seem very on again for this duo. January Jones looked glamorous as ever posing without her on screen Mad Men husband Don Draper, but if the second season of the show taught us anything it's that Betty is just fine by herself. The party may have been about the men of the year, but the women held their own before heading in for a night of fun.

'Mad Men' actor visits 'Lost'

18 November 2008 8:11 AM, PST | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

Update Nov. 19: There's more news on Fischler's "Lost" appearance here. Patrick Fischler, who had a memorable role as comic Jimmy Barrett in Season 2 of "Mad Men," will be part of "Lost's" fifth season. Eric Goldman of IGN posted a lengthy report on a recent appearance by "Lost" executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse at a screenwriting conference (don't worry, there are no spoilers in Eric's story). Some general highlights about the upcoming season from that event: Fischler (pictured at right on "Mad Men"; he was also great on "The Middleman" and "Burn Notice" this year) will appear...

Ask Matt: Is The Shield TV's Best Drama? Can Heroes Catch a Break? And More!

17 November 2008 1:18 AM, PST | From TVGuide - Breaking News | See recent TVGuide.com - Breaking News news

TV Guide's Senior Critic Matt Roush takes your TV questions. Have a rant, rave or burning question about your favorite show you'd like addressed? E-mail him here!

Question: Since Mad Men has recently wrapped up its second season, do you think the final season of The Shield is the best drama on television right now? I agree with you that the initial episodes involving the Mexican and Armenian gang war was convoluted and a bit illogical at times, yet these last few episodes have been some of the best television I've seen in a long time. The scene where Vic almost shot Shane and Mara had to be one of the most suspenseful moments on any show. Other scenes, like when Vic finally turned in his badge and gun and called it quits or when Shane hinted at the idea of having to leave his family, were great as well.

Ask Matt: Will Big Bang Make an Emmy Splash? What's Next for Ghost Whisperer and More!

The Big Bang Theory</i>" style="margin:0 5px 5px" />TV Guide's Senior Critic Matt Roush takes your TV questions. Have a rant, rave or burning question about your favorite show you'd like addressed? E-mail him here!

Question: I can't tell you how delighted I was to see The Big Bang Theory hit a series-high 10 million viewers last Monday. It is so nice to see people are finally noticing and watching the funniest sitcom on TV. I just love this show. I know it is ridiculously early, but do you think Jim Parsons will get an Emmy nomination this year? Sheldon has become the funniest character on TV, and the creativity and difficulty of learning all the science really makes Parsons a standout. Like I said, I know it is early, but what do you think of his chances, and how about The Big Bang Theory getting a nomination for best comedy show?

Supernatural Angels Want Mad Men's Hildy Dead

12 November 2008 10:45 PM, PST | From TVGuide.com - Features | See recent TVGuide - Features news

This week on the CW's Supernatural (Thursdays at 9 pm/Et), a religious young woman named Anna is wanted dead by the angels, yet wanted alive by the demons of hell. Say what?! Guest-star Julie McNiven — whom you might recognize as Pete's gal Friday, Hildy, on Mad Men — shares a look at how her mild-mannered character gets caught in the middle of a most unholy war. TVGuide.com: Anna can hear the voices of angels. How is it that Sam and Dean learn of her existence?

Julie McNiven: Ruby finds out about me — I don't know if she reveals her source — and then tells Sam and Dean about this girl who can hear angels' conversations. I'm locked up in a mental institution because, obviously, people think I'm insane.

TVGuide.com: How does Anna know that it's angels she's hearing?

McNiven: Because their conversations are all about the war that's brewing between Heaven and Hell,

Here's a little "Supernatural" preview for you. Bonus: One of this week's guest stars is a "Mad Men" actress. Watch the 'Mad Men' (and women) sing and swing

11 November 2008 1:51 PM, PST | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

I took the day off today and wasn't going to post anything (ha, right, like I can ever resist). Anyway, this link required that I post it immediately. It's a montage of still photos and performance footage from a recent stage performance by the cast of "Mad Men." It was a charity performance in aid of the Grammy organization's music education programs, and not surprisingly, the cast of the show brought down the house, by all accounts. I once saw Bryan Batt perform Cole Porter's "Night and Day" at a TCA "Mad Men" party, and he simply slayed everyone. I'm...

Christina Hendricks Talks About Her ‘Sexretary’ Look

31 October 2008 6:49 PM, PDT | From www.actressarchives.com | See recent Actress Archives news

Unforgettable to anyone who’s watched at least one episode of AMC’s hit drama “Mad Men,” actress Christina Hendricks’ character Joan Holloway epitomizes the idea of “vintage sexy.” With her voluptuous frame, fiery red hair and penchant for flirtatious ripostes, Holloway has come to represent for many women an icon of early 60’s sass and elegance. While the majority of female characters on “Mad Men” consist of mousey, introverted women hiding their sexuality from the world, Holloway, through Hendricks’ interpretation, is by comparison a reminder that most men (however quietly) once preferred Jane Mansfield to Doris Day. In a recent ...

'Mad Men' meets '30 Rock'? Oh happy day

31 October 2008 9:59 AM, PDT | From TheWatcher | See recent The Watcher news

I have been running around like a fool the last couple of days, sorry for the relative lack of posting. One of the things on my "to do" list was lunch with John Hodgman, the resident expert on "The Daily Show" and author of the new tome "More Information Than You Require." I grilled him about his book, his Apple commercials, his cameo on the final season of "Battlestar Galactica," and I'll post a story on his recent doings early next week. Anyway, I was so busy yesterday, I was unable to pass on this happy news til now: Jon...

Just in time for Halloween, Kevin Smith's new film Zack & Miri Make a Porno hits theaters tonight. The only scary thing about it are the dirty jokes that flop, but the movie as a whole is quite funny. Is Kevin Smith a juvenile genius? Is Zack and Miri his Fitzcarroldo (as Paul claims)? These are the things we ponder amidst a plethora poop and dick jokes. Karina offers her reflections on Mad Men now that the second season has ended. She ...

Ask Matt: Is Life on Mars Becoming Just Another Typical Police Drama? And More!

Question: I wanted to write about how much I am enjoying Life on Mars. The cast is excellent, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the action and the era. And to think I almost didn't give this show a chance. Why? Because deep down, it's a show about cops, and I have had to put up with so many procedurals for so long that I've had my fill ... I have not seen the original British series, so I can't compare it to the American. As much as I have enjoyed it, I am not sure I know where the show is headed. In the first two episodes, there was a lot of reference to Sam's life in

Andrew Johnston, 1968-2008, Friend to Critics, Geeks

30 October 2008 1:54 PM, PDT | From Spout.com | See recent Spout news

TV and film critic Andrew Johnston (long with Time Out New York, more recently a contributor at The House Next Door) died over the weekend at age 40, after a battle with cancer. I didn't know Andrew personally, but I knew his writing through his Mad Men recaps at The House, which this season I began religiously checking every Sunday night after watching each new episode twice in a row. Now House Next Door creator Matt Zoller Seitz has published a tribute to Johnston, which is a must-read whether you're familiar with his criticism or not. Two things pop out: first, Johnston leaves behind a legacy of supporting other film and media writers, most notably by helping them get jobs. As Seitz wr ...
